Depth Matters Podcast – Behind the Mic Ep1: A Creative Pivot to Something Deeper

Our podcast journey has officially begun, and we’re already going deeper than planned. What started as a Behind the Mic side note, revealed itself to be something much bigger – a foundational episode we’re calling Episode 0.

A Creative Pivot to Something Deeper

Pivoting has been a lifelong lesson for me. Plenty of times in life, I have found myself pivoting from plan to plan when things just don’t work out but there is no will to give up. Haven’t we all been there? And this podcast journey has been no exception.

But what’s interesting about this particular pivot, is that it actually asked me to pivot not something new, but to an even deeper level than I was intending to.

As I was recording Episode 1, some additional insights came to me in the moment, that I couldn’t capture in the Episode. So a few weeks after I published Episode 1, I set out to share those additional insights in a Behind the Mic post thinking it would just be as simple as that. But … as I was writing that post, it occurred to me that what I was attempting to share, was actually part of a much deeper (and larger) conversation – one that I couldn’t just cover in a single writing. In fact, I discovered that to give this information the breathing room it needed, it deserved its own podcast episode!

So … we’re going to change it up. And instead of our next episode covering healing in the context of human self-worth and value, we’re going to take one step back so that we can take the next steps forward. Our next episode, instead of focusing on the healing journey, is going to introduce what I call Episode 0.

Episode 0 – A Fundamental Re-frame of Self-Worth and Value

In the Behind the Mic post I was originally writing, I was intending to share what self-worth and value is and what it isn’t. That sounds pretty straightforward right? Here’s the kicker though: as I was putting it together, I realized how critically important it is to understand what these terms actually mean at the deeper levels. Because we can’t have meaningful conversations about self-worth and value if we don’t first spend some quality time understanding, how our society defines them and how this podcast series is going to re-frame your ideas about these topics entirely.

Because here’s the thing – what we’re attempting to share here, is a fundamental shift in the way we’ve normally looked at and thought about human self-value and worth. As you look at the literature and the academic definitions, you’ll get one view – that self-worth and value is measurable, subjective, based mostly on what you do, what value you provide, what worth you’re given by society and others. But in this series and here at thecrv, it’s much bigger and deeper than that. Here we understand that self-worth and value is the powerful foundation that drives our presence in this world – it can’t be measured, it is not given or earned, it simply is, by virtue of our very human existence.

This is a fundamental and powerful shift away from how we’re normally taught to think and feel about self-worth and value. And in order for you to truly benefit from the rest of our podcast series – to understand and appreciate who you are and the gold you carry as you remain anchored in this time of extraordinary change – you need to understand why this reframe is not only necessary, it’s imperative.

Why This Work Can’t Wait

We often write about the extraordinary era of massive change we’re in and how it’s driving disruptive, heartbreaking turmoil, turbulence, chaos and violence. And we’ve written before about our fractured collective and its powerful resistance to change. In our Humanity First Series: The Cost of Fear and Humanity Needed we cover how this terror of change will cause many in our collective to sacrifice their humanity and their own welfare and well-being to serve their fear and how destructive that path may be for many.

In the same series, we write about the powerful antidote to this turbulent era of change: choosing Humanity First, choosing each other. But in order to do so, we must be able to recognize the inherent and powerful worth and value that we ALL have and we must be able to stand firm and anchored in that knowledge. Because this turmoil, this massive transition change cycle, will test our ability to stick together, to stand up for each other and to express the greatest talents (our gold) we have in service of each other and our planet. We can’t do that successfully if we don’t understand how to value ourselves first individually, so that we can fight for what we truly deserve together.

This work can’t wait. Now is time to dig in and go deeper. I invite you to join me, as we do this work together.

Stay tuned for Episode 0, coming your way soon!

Love, Carmen
